The Judge Dredd Mega-Collection

Image
The Judge Dredd Mega-Collection is a odd collection of optional reading. It probably is where Grant and Wagner through story ideas that couldn’t sustain a whole prog. Each story is only a page long, usually being about 10-12 panels. These short stories were not published in 2000AD, instead they were published in the Daily Star a British newspaper. This volume featured all the stories published from the start in 1981 and runs through 1985. While this volume was published in 1990, as far as I can tell it is still to this day the only comprehensive reprint of the daily star strips. They all follow a similar format, having a short establishing plot, some action and a one-liner/punchline at the end. The short format of these stories leaves little to no time to breath. As each adventure gets straight to the point. Interestingly there are a few multipart stories in here running up to four installments in length (Which while rare is interesting because it brings the story up to the

Judge Dredd: The Complete Case Files 08

Contains 2000 AD Progs 376-423         Now a full 3 case files after the apocalypse war I started to want more epic stories. The last two volumes (And years in publishing) were primarily focused with showing the aftermath of the Apocalypse War and while the wars shadow will always hang in Judge Dredd akin to September 11 th here in the States, the volume begins moving on. This Volume we get three extended Dredd semi-epics this time around, none of which are related to the apocalypse war.            Moving on from the apocalypse war as it kicks off a semi-epic story “Dredd Angel”. Leads into “The Hell Trekkers’ and concludes with “City of the dammed” while some may be better than others all three are great stories. The first two of these stories call back to the complete case files 04 the Judge child but I enjoyed them more than the Judge child. The cursed earth is always bonkers          The first of these two and the longest clocking in at 29 progs “The He

Judge Anderson: The Psi Files Volume 01

2000 AD Annual 1984 and 2000 AD Progs 416-427, 468-478, 520-531, 607-609, 612-622, 635-647, 657-659, 669-670, 712-717,758-763, + Judge Corey, 2000 AD Sci-Fi Special 1989) Judge Anderson: The psi files volume 01 is a tough volume to place in the timeline. Just look at the above progs included to see why. Some Anderson stories were released nearly 100 progs apart from each other. I personally would have preferred they be included in the Dredd complete case files in their appropriate positions, but this works as well. The main point of interest about Anderson stories is because her comics were not regulars in 2000 her stories are longer than the average Judge Tale (they clock in at 5-15 progs long)          Unfortunately, this case file is so incomplete that that they didn’t even title it the complete case files. Anderson's Shamballa isn’t included along with a series of other Dredd Annual stories are missing. With that said it is forgivable that Shamballa is missin

Judge Dredd: The Complete Case Files 07

2000 AD  Progs 322-375       Judge Dredd: The Complete Case Files 07 carries the legacy that 06 started, no epic arcs are to be found in these pages, unlike volume 06 though where the majority of the progs were dealing with the apocalypse war aftermath this volume begins to return to the original format with less connected progs the average story here being about 4 in length. For me the standout progs were “Cry of the Werewolf” It has great art and watching the Judges fight the classic movie monsters is good fun. I also loved the graveyard shift. At seven parts it really is just like a bunch of individual four-page progs which Ron Smith decided to tie into one interconnected block. I Do love this format when it is implemented, similar to the mega-rackets found in the complete case files 05. It makes what would be throwaway progs that would be drowned out a little more memorable, a little more special and a little harder to forget about. They cover a wide range of topics fr

Judge Dredd: Mega Heroes- Merch Review

Image
In 1995 Mattel partnered with 2001 AD on a line of 16 action figurines based on the Dredd Franchise. It was tied in partially with the Judge Dredd film but fortunately there designs more closely relate to the comic counterparts. They came in 6 packages which have 2-3 figures each, all of which are about 2-3 inches tall.  Mattel deliberately puts at least one character that a kid or collector would want in each package which makes each pack worth the purchase.  The packs are as follows Mega Heroes #1 First box of course has Dredd, then they throw in Fergie and mega city perp, couple of throwaway toys to include Mega Heroes #2 Mega Heroes 2 is picked out for the movie fans with Fargo, Mean Machine, and the Judge Hunters. Mean machine is a highlight Mega Heroes #3 Pack 03 has dredd again this time with fink angel and an ugly pugly. its really similar to pack 01, Dredd+minor character+generic villain  Mega Heroes #4 This one seems to just feature c

Judge Dredd: The Complete Case Files 06

Image
2000 AD Progs 271-321 As if the apocalypse war in itself wasn’t epic enough the complete case files 06 doubles down on the concept as John Wagner, Alan Grant, and the guest writers/artists spend almost the entire volume (about a year when it was originally published) dealing with the aftermath of the war itself. This is a good thing because when half the city is destroyed it needs to mean something, otherwise stories would be meaningless. There is a lot of great progs in this volume, which makes it a great read but tough to write without spoiling them, a normal comic issue has a much longer page count than an individual prog which sometimes are a complete story unto themselves. The fatties make a few returns in there best appearances yet)and arguably ever) as their entire way of life is put at risk with the food shortages. I also particularly love blobs, it is the kind of weird fashion which I would expect from mega-city one, I actually wish that blobs were more re-occu

Judge Dredd “Citi-Def Chaos”

Image
Judge Dredd “Citi-Def Chaos” i s a much less known Animated movie, on a fairly unknown you-tube  channel. This film I was pleasantly  surprised to enjoy. It is a bit rough around the edges production that clearly has love and care put into it. Citi-Def's animation combines stiff 2D models which moves similar  to a motion comic with smooth moving 3D animation. Out of the two distinct  styles I enjoyed the 2D animation more but the two of them work together well, and better than some attempts I've  seen such as in Superfiend.           The camera work is done well enough that is manages to distract from the often un-moving animation style and fake some motion. I don’t know what it was about this film specifically but I really liked the drawing style they used, the colors are bright where they need to be and dull where they need to be making for some truly nice visuals.  While it may be ruff clearly the creator has skills, which based on his newer videos has co
